Original Compositions & Arrangements

In addition to performing, James has written and arranged music in both academic and professional capacities. In high school, the Governor’s School Cantus Choir chose his piece ‘Love, The True Art’ to be featured at their end-of-year concert. Several of his works were also performed at his Bachelor’s alma mater, with his Wind Quintet included on the biannual Honors Recital. While there, several of his choral works and hymn arrangements were also performed by the Phi Mu Alpha Choir.

Later, as a professional church chorister, the choirs he was employed by performed many of his choral compositions. James has also written for the jazz and country groups he has led and been a part of, with several compositions featured on the Bayou City Swing album Sunshine on Bastrop.

As for arranging, ensembles like the Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra (ECHO) have engaged James to arrange several orchestral-scale works. Examples include ‘If Ever I Would Leave You’ from Camelot, ‘Old Man River’ from Showboat, and the title theme from The Godfather.
